Transitional Justice as a Path Toward Civil Peace in Syria
On 16 May 2026, the Head of the Honorary Office of the International Human Rights Commission IHRC Corporation in the Syrian Arab Republic, Prof. Yahaya Al Amouri, participated in the conference entitled:
“Transitional Justice as Our Path to Civil Peace” organized by Mzaya in Idlib Governorate, Syrian Arab Republic.
During his speech, Prof. Yahaya Al Amouri emphasized that transitional justice represents one of the most important foundations for achieving lasting civil peace in Syria. He stressed that true justice begins with acknowledging the truth, protecting the rights of victims, and ensuring legal accountability away from revenge and retaliation.
He further highlighted that the humanitarian suffering experienced by the Syrian people requires serious and responsible efforts aimed at protecting human dignity, rebuilding trust among communities, and promoting the values of justice, tolerance, and coexistence in order to secure a safe and stable future for all Syrians.
Prof. Yahaya Al Amouri also stated that sustainable peace cannot be achieved solely through rebuilding infrastructure, but rather through rebuilding the human being first, strengthening the rule of law, and making justice a bridge toward national reconciliation and societal healing.
In the same context, Mr. Rami Abdul Haq, Head of the Political Affairs and International Relations Department, supported this vision by emphasizing the importance of dialogue between all components of society, the active participation of civil society organizations, and support for political processes that enhance stability and civil peace.
The conference concluded with a shared understanding among participants that transitional justice and constructive societal dialogue are essential pillars for preserving national unity and building sustainable peace in Syria.
